Their philosophy is simple: no two storms are alike, and no two sheds face the same conditions. Humidity, sensitive natural areas, bridge decks, and freezing fog all present their own unique challenges, so WSDOT equips its crews with a full toolbox of tools and tactics rather than a single fix. Two practices stood out. First, prewetting granular products before they hit the road. Second, sticking to calculated standard operating procedures based on real-time conditions. Together, these have helped WSDOT balance performance with budget, storm after storm. ## **Training Eastern Washington Cities and Counties** From there, we met with cities and counties across Eastern Washington to share winter maintenance best practices. Several of these teams have already asked us to come back for refresher trainings, and for some crew members, this was the first time they'd heard this approach at all. Ice Slicer® was the star of the conversation, and it's easy to see why. When crews see the data and hear directly from Dr. Steve, Clark, and the team about what Ice Slicer® can add to their toolbox, the idea of using less product for better results really resonates. Several attendees who traditionally rely on white salt, or white salt and sand, left the training ready to give Ice Slicer® a try. The day wrapped with an open discussion and Q&A that sparked real interest and real questions, exactly the kind of exchange that leads to better winter maintenance decisions down the road.
